Presidents of Venezuela and Ecuador Singing Jan. 30th, 2009 @ 02:09 pm

The World Social Forum in Brazil (a gathering of activists billed as an alternative to the Economic Forum of business leaders in Davos, Switzerland) finished with... singing!

A song about Ernesto Che Guevara was sung by the presidents of Venezuela and Ecuador - Hugo Chavez and Rafael Correa.

New Years Jan. 2nd, 2006 @ 11:01 am

On New Years I began to think...47 years... 47 years since cuban people ran down streets singing and dancing... 47 years since cuban people showed Imperialism that all of them united could create a force no one ever imagined.

To me that should not be forgotten, that moment, the joy... But it has, it has been forgotten and exchanged for something else, dictatorship. The very thing which was intended to avoid is now set in the very country that was thought, which Ernesto thought, to be an example.

I think enough time has passed, maybe to much. I, personally, think democracy is the best way to rule a country. Having one person rule a country for more then ten years isn't good, his ideas aren't fresh and he forgets how it was like to have the support of the people, he just stays there comfortable with his position... But you have to think about the people you are ruling, are they happy? Do they still like your ideas? Maybe you should present someone new, someone with fresh ideas and show him your support.

That's just me thinking things over fireworks and pineapple icecream... 47 years is a long, long time. And sometimes things change for the best.

Our Friend Chavez Dec. 26th, 2005 @ 11:11 am

Just wondering what people think of Chavez? Benign saviour or future caudillio?

His super majority in congress is a bit unsetteling as it opens up the ability to rewrite the constitution to his fancy and allows for power abuse. But if the chap has good intentions then he could make some much needed reform and set good examples for the rest of the latin block.

Time to write in English, for all of you who do not understand Spanish the exact translation of the things I wrote above.

I'm not one of those people who has been dedicated to study "el Che", nor the ideals he had, but, to me, he still represents a big part of my life. Because to me he's a role model. A person who reached, as far as he did, just to fight for the things he believed in is an admnirable person. I have to admit I'm one of those who buys posters to hang them on my wall, but it's not because of his popularity, it's because I get up every morning seeing his face and that reminds me that we are all put on this world to fight for the well being of the people, "el pueblo", just like Che did.
Maybe my message doesn't mean much to you, maybe there are a lot of people that don't agree with me, but I have to say that it's times like these when we need a lot of role models, more than ever, Che is one of them just because he was himself.

Hey. I'm sorry for posting such a stupid post here, but I have to do a project on Mr. Guevara here and this was the only active community I could find.

Basically, I need the names of some songs that Che would have liked.

I thank all who respond to this in advance.

hola a todos!

hi everyone i´m new here...i guess i´ll just post in english then, seems to be the lingua franca. :)

I´m not sure what to say...I love the man, I don´t love the communism as much but it´s fine because it was the avenue that was necessary at the time. I dislike flashy displays of el Che. Im getting a poster in my room though that has a Che quote (not flashy ;))
my favorite: Let me say to you, at the risk of sounding rediculous, that the true revolucionary is motivated by great feelings of love" (in spanish though of course).

question...What´s the current opinion of Motorcycle Diaries?

and also...i noticed this quote...""Si avanzo, seguidme; si me detengo, empujadme; si retrocedo, matadme."

Che uses vosotros, right?...he wasn´t from spain though, anyone help me out here? (the spanish speakers at least ;)
or is that the vos form too? sorry..not up on my voseo :-p

thx, take care...
Mariel

I thought I would take the time to make a color bar and share it with everyone, as I haven't seen any other Che color bars...

This is the code if you want to use it:
